Title 1 Program Overview
What is Title 1?
Title 1 is a federal program that provides funding to local school districts to improve the academic achievement for qualifying students. It is part of the Elementary
and Secondary Act first passed in 1965.
How do students qualify for Title 1?
Support services include but are not limited to…
A school receives Title 1 funds…
When the school district identifies attendance areas with the highest percentages of children eligible to receive Free and Reduced lunch through the National School Lunch Program. If your child is identified as needing Title 1 services, it does not necessarily mean they receive free and reduced lunch. This is simply a way the federal government decides how much money each school or district receives.
